ExperienceMy journey to becoming a tutor is one that is filled with twist and turns, and my experiences are what allow me to create positive outcomes for students I teach. When I started my studies at University of the Pacific, I planned to become a dentist. I soon decided to change my course and switched to Sports Medicine and received a bachelor's degree. I am now studying for an actuary degree. My teaching experiences have taken me across many Asian countries including Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, and China. In Korea, I worked as an English instructor for elementary students. When I taught in Korea, it was especially gratifying to witness the transformation of young people who were initially afraid of learning another language. In many cases, they were unable to communicate in English, either through reading or speaking. I noticed that by providing support and offering repeated lessons, the students made the transition. As a teacher, when you see that they "get it," and their minds are open to the knowledge, it is an exceptional feeling of pride and accomplishment. Unlocking young minds is exactly what I want to accomplish as a tutor. I am especially interested in helping students prep for the SAT. I received a lot of tutoring for that exam, so I have a good sense of how to ease the burden of preparation. When I am not studying myself, I enjoy shooting hoops, reading, listening to music, and being a gym rat.
